YTD STATS - JUST TOO BUSY

Yup, just too much going on here in the 50th state, where even the late games are over by 8 pm.  The Gunslingers are flirting with the .800 OPS mark thanks to a surge by David Wright and Adrian Gonzalez, a mini-surge by Justin Smoak, and the full-season surge of Miggy Cabrera.  Everybody else is mired in what I'll call a "sub-surge", which is better than saying they can't hit for shit.  Carlos Quentin is unbelievably disappointing.  If that guy had even one healthy bone in his body, he might hit .280/.370/.500, but as usual he's dragging around a carcass that even Amy Winehouse would call decrepit.  Also, his teammate, Alexei Ramirez, might actually hit double digits in walks, and what a parade there will be!

The moundsmen have settled into their various levels of suckitude for the season.  Mark Buehrle still has a shot to turn it around, but Kevin Millwood is just plain shot.  The Yankees treated him like a batting range machine the other day, and not the one on the end that throws fast.  Sixteen homers allowed, and we still have a month until the All-Star break.  Nick Masset is officially dropped.  That guy completely forgot how to pitch in the major leagues in one year.  Ramon S. Ramirez is failing to distinguish himself from  Ramon A. Ramirez, which tells you a lot.  On the plus side, Jonathan Sanchez has been fantastic, and Luke Gregerson makes news when somebody gets a hit off him.  Jamie Moyer and Darren Oliver are going to start doing those ads you see in the in-flight magazines with the grey-haired dudes with ridiculously buff bodies.

In the bushes, Mike Trout has somehow not been promoted, but only because he might need to fly as an unaccompanied minor.  Alex White has been promoted, and is pitching even better in AA, although I keep hearing he's not a real prospect because his name isn't Strasburg, I guess.  Grant Green's run is up, and he's back to being Grant Green, which means somebody else will have a shot at him in next year's USSP draft.  Christian Colon was drafted fourth overall by the Kansas City Royals, and everybody said that was a reach.  Still, the Royals system is having a great year, so I might get lucky there if and when Colon starts rookie ball.  We're still two weeks away from Miguel Sano's debut.  Aaron Crow's most recent start ended in the first inning, and his career as a Gunslinger probably ended right about the same time.
